ECO Information for the day- THE ELDERS

Rather than the denomination controlling the local church from the top down, ECO has released a great deal of freedom to the local church, and has given a great deal of responsibility to the elders. Each elder is ordained and commissioned by the local church.

As a part of ECO, the elders of Lincoln Presbyterian are voted on by our church, and the elders are responsible for leading our church and making most of the key decisions. First and foremost the elders are to be examples of godly living.

Some of the important functions that the elders have the responsibility and freedom to lead include:

  1. Listening to testimonies and approving covenant partners (membership).
  2. Being involved in serving and even leading the sacraments of baptism and communion.
  3. Protecting the correct teaching of Scripture and Doctrine.
  4. Adopting, presenting and overseeing the annual budget and all church finances.

There is cooperation and accountability of oversight for all the commissions. These commissions support the various responsibilities of the elders as outlined by ECO.

  1. Worship Commission
  2. Outreach Commission (local and global)
  3. Community Commission (local body of Christ)
  4. Adult Education Commission
  5. Youth Commission
  6. Children's Commission
  7. PBS Commission (Personnel, Budget, and Stewardship)
  8. Buildings and Grounds Commission
