Yearning

by Merrilee Chapman on October 30, 2020

“O God, You are my God, earnestly I seek You: my soul thirsts for You, my body longs for You, in a dry and weary land where there is no water." Psalm 63:1-2

For what or for whom do you yearn?  What is it that motivates you? Do you have some passions in life that are far above everything else?

In these verses we hear the cry of David seeking after the Lord with all he has within him.  He recognizes the amazing God he craves.  He knows there is nothing or no one who can satisfy him like the Lord God.  He finds strength and refuge in the hand of his God.

Would that we would seek so earnestly, or know so certainly, or find such strength.  It is the same God for whom we search.  It is with the same certainty we can recognize His glory.  It is with the same confidence we can feel his strength and encouragement.

Be encouraged this day that the Creator of the Heavens and the Earth reaches His hand down to us with love and grace to see us through this day.  For it is today we need Him.  Tomorrow will come soon enough.  It is my prayer that we would find ourselves on a quest of seeking Him each day, and spending time with Him each day.

Here is the rest of this Psalm section, where there is explanation of the delight in spending time with Him.

"I have seen You in the sanctuary and beheld Your power and Your glory.

Because Your love is better than life, my lips will glorify You.

I will praise You as long as I live, and in Your Name I will lift up my hands.

My soul will be satisfied as with the richest of foods; with singing lips my mouth will praise You.

On the bed I remember You; I think of You through the watches of the night.

Because You are my help, I sing in the shadow of Your wings.

My soul clings to You; Your right hand upholds me.” (Psalm 63:3-8)
