Wonderful Works

by Lise Bachman-Karnes on August 16, 2021

“I praise You because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” Psalm 139: 14

I say this verse to myself when I find myself being critical about some aspect of my being, usually my shape. I suppose most of us have something about ourselves that we do not like, whether it is our height or our weight or perhaps a bald spot or a big nose or chin or our body type. Whatever it is, it is comforting to know that we were fearfully and wonderfully made.

The Psalmist David precedes this with the thought:

“For You created my inmost being: You knit me together in my mother’s womb.” Vs. 13

And bookends it with another beautiful thought:

“My frame was not hidden from You when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth."  Vs. 15

What a wonderful thought that even as we were being formed. God was watching and approving of us! The whole chapter is inspirational. Even though God knew that we would fail Him in so many ways, He approved of us as a masterpiece. So, we need to care for the beauty that is us and go forth with confidence in God’s love of us. What could be better?
