Trust

by Jim Duncan on July 29, 2021

“Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.” Proverbs 3: 5-6

Some time ago I wrote a song titled, “To Love, to Trust, and to Obey.”  The lyrics of the chorus are as follows;

For He’s the one who rescued me
For my life He paid the fee
I’ve learned to trust Him everyway
To Love to Trust and to Obey

I wrote the words, but for me trust is a challenge.  Although God has shown me over and over that His plan is best, I still struggle with trust.  As I think back over my life, I can remember time after time that I did not get something I wanted, and then God provided something better.  Can you identify with this?  Perhaps you didn’t get the job you just had to have but then God provided you a better job. Maybe you didn’t get the dream house that you wanted so bad, and then God found an even better house.  Possibly you broke up with a girlfriend, or boyfriend and cried for days, not trusting that God had someone more fitting already picked for you.  I have lived through these scenarios.  God has always had the best plan.  I should trust God beyond any doubt.  Yet, I still have fear, doubt, worry, and anxiety.  I find I must pray daily for peace of mind and constantly remind myself to trust Him.  If you share any lack of trust in the Lord, let’s pray together:

Dear God, Please help us gain a deeper trust in You.  Give us a confidence that will allow us to give all control to You.  We know You have the best plan for our lives, but we still have doubts.  We find we are afraid of the unknown, and worried about things that never happen.  Lord, we are asking that You take our insecurities away, and in turn give us peace of mind and complete trust in You.  We ask this in the name of Your son, Jesus Christ, Amen.
