Time for an Attitude Adjustment

by Jim Dunn on March 02, 2024

“Let brotherly love continue.” Hebrews 13:1

I’m not sure if any of you who are reading this devotional ever struggle with someone’s personality. Actually, there are times when I see someone on TV or out in the public eye and for whatever reason, I just don’t care for them. My attitude toward them is forged without taking time to find out about them. I simply decide that I am not a fan of them.

Case in point - Jim Harbaugh. Now some of you may not know him. I am a 49er fan but when he coached them, I didn’t like him. Didn’t know much about him – I just had a poor/bad attitude about Jim Harbaugh. He left the 49ers, good, for Michigan. Then his team was in the national championship football game for college. Guess what- they won. I still didn’t care for him.

Then God brought a message to me the other morning about Jim Harbaugh’s faith and how it has impacted his football team. Seventy, yes 70, football players on the Michigan team gave their lives to Christ and were baptized in 2023. Plus, his pro-life position has become a powerful testimony for the unborn and he simply put it out for the world to see. Thank you coach Harbaugh for showing your faith so publicly and your love for the unborn.

God, what are You doing to me once again? I am not a fan of Michigan or the Chargers where Jim Harbaugh will coach football in the future, but God showed me again- “Stop judging the book by the cover!” I wonder how many people are in my brain in the wrong way.

So, I was reminded- Jesus said, “you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the first and the greatest commandment. And the second is just like it: you (that means me and you) shall love your neighbor as yourself.” (Matthew 22:37-39)

God, when my attitude is out of line with someone, please give me the joy of an attitude adjustment, in Jesus’ name.
