The Rocks Cry Out

by Star Heer on September 22, 2021

In April, we had a car trip with great Christian friends of ours to Colorado and Utah, visiting parklands. We went through Garden of the Gods, Canyonlands, Mesa Verde, Arches, and Colorado National Monument. You should have heard the exclamations in our car! Every corner we came around, the view was again spectacular and beyond expectations. We were constantly oohing and aaahing – and praising God for His provision and majesty and creation. It was truly amazing. And that word doesn’t even cover the half of it!

Now that I’m thinking about it, we were looking at rocks. Rocks! Rocks that are strong and magnificent and steadfast and immovable.  It appears there is a story to be told among the rocks. Here are some examples:

Our God was described as a rock. Deuteronomy 32:4- “He is the Rock,  His works are perfect, and all His ways are just. A faithful God who does no wrong, upright and just is He.”

As the rock, our God protects us: Psalm 18:2- "The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge,  my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.”

As the rock, our God rescues us: Psalm 40:2-“He lifted me out of the slimy pit,
out of the mud and mire; He set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand.”

As our rock, God is immutable and can always be trusted- Isaiah 26.4- "Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord, the Lord Himself, is the Rock eternal.”

God even provided for the continuation of His church, that even the gates of Hell cannot destroy. Matthew 16:18- And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it.”
