Reach Out

by Ilana Ferguson on July 08, 2023

"God did this so that they would seek Him and perhaps reach out for Him and find Him, though He is not far from any one of us. For in Him we live and move and have our being.  As some of your own poets have said, ‘We are His offspring.'"  Acts 17:27-28

Do you ever get into a season of thinking that you just need to DO a little more to 'get right with God'?  Sometimes we get really ambitious and make plans for how we'll reorder our whole lives - especially at the start of the year or the beginning of summer, etc.  I'm all for making changes that need to be made and committing to spiritual rhythms, but we have to remember that there is nothing we can do for God, nor does He need anything from us.  There's no 4-step plan that will help us secure our salvation or put us in good standing with God.  Jesus has already paid the price!

I love this verse in Acts because it serves as a reminder and encouragement to me. Paul is speaking to Greek thinkers in their place of gathering and discussion when he tells them the lines in vs.27-28.

If we perhaps just reach out for God, we can find Him.  There's not a specific process we have to go through or actions we need to check off, we just need to reach out.  And we can find Him because God is not far from any one of us!  Even when we can only give this little effort, God is still there because He is so near to us. The fact that God designed it this way (God did this…v 27) reminds me of His love for us, even in our feeble, human attempts to seek and find Him - He has already made the way.

Today, take time to look for and notice God in the creation, people and situations around you.  How do you 'live and move and have your being' in Him?  May He reveal just how close He is to you today.
