Preparation and Execution

by Jon Hathorn on October 09, 2023

“By faith Noah, being warned by God concerning events as yet unseen, in reverent fear constructed an ark for the saving of his household” Hebrews 11:17

Preparing well makes execution easier.  Poor preparation can lead to all sorts of challenges.  Preparation helps groups and families work together toward the common goal.

Jesus prepared - He spent quality time alone and sometimes in a small group. Preparation is necessary for the mind, the body, and the soul.  I read a quote from a friend that said, “Tomorrow’s unknown crisis is not something to avoid in fear. It requires our attention and deliberation. We just need to have the courage to face the truth of our future’s uncertainty. We just need to be prepared.” (Christopher Manske, an author and investment guru).

The Scriptures speak to this.

Proverbs 6:6-8 says, “Take a lesson from the ants, you lazybones. Learn from their ways and become wise! Though they have no prince or governor or ruler to make them work, they labor hard all summer, gathering food for the winter.”

Psalm 39:4 tells us, “Lord, remind me how brief my time on earth will be. Remind me that my days are numbered— how fleeting my life is.”

Every good athlete knows this. Good students rely on this. Farmers understand it. Governments recognize the importance of being prepared whether it involves homeland security or preparation for a natural disaster.

Today, attend to your preparedness with these simple steps from Forbes 12/30/2021:

  1. Character – Leaders set a wise example for others.
  2. Commitment – Resolve to serve and accomplish your mission.
  3. Competence – Decide to learn all you can to be proficient.

Here’s a great thought, “Four frogs are sitting on a log. One decides to jump. How many frogs remain? The answer is FOUR. Deciding to jump and jumping are two different things! Are you going to decide to prepare or actually prepare?”

Take the time to prepare your heart and mind each day - it is a great routine.

WHY PREPARE? Because what’s before us is not always known.
