No Regrets

“He passed away, to no one’s regret” 2 Chronicles 21:20a

Jehoshaphat was king of Judah in Jerusalem and did what was right in the eyes of the Lord.  When Jehoshaphat died, his son Jehoram succeeded him as King.  Unlike his father Jehoshaphat, Jehoram did not do what was right in the eyes of the Lord.  When Jehoram died, in 2 Chronicles 21:19b – 20a it says, … and he died in great pain. His people made no funeral fire in his honor, as they had for his predecessors.…He passed away, to no one’s regret…” Wow! Can you imagine living a life where when you die, no one is upset?

During this time of Covid-19 shelter in place, I have prayed that I would try to make the most of this time getting closer to God.  I did not want to waste this unexpected downtime.  So, I have been reading my Bible and other devotionals daily, praying for God to reveal my character and help me to change in the areas He sees best.  I have also seen answered prayer for many in our congregation during this time.  One area that God has revealed to me is to be more grateful.  While I did not ask for shelter in place, God has allowed me to see how blessed I am and to be appreciative of His blessings.  When this shelter in place passes away, I will be grateful to have no regret in being intentional in using this time to get closer to God.

Finally, going forward, I want to live the rest of my life in a way that pleases God so when I die, no one will say “he passed away, to no one’s regret.”
