Memory Verses

by Harry Ulep on August 24, 2021

“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path."  Psalm 119:105

While we were at Summer Camp, they had daily memory verses that applied to the theme of the week. Each meal, everyone would recite the verses together. On top of that, teams would receive bonus points if the members could memorize the verses.

During those times in which we would do our best to memorize it and recite it, it was amazing seeing the different students and how each one chose to memorize the Scripture. Some would take it word by word, others in little phrases, and some would go for the whole verse in one! Regardless of the path, the students managed to memorize the verses and recite them back.

Although part, or maybe most, of the motivation came from wanting to push their team to win and gain bonus points, the students spent time in God’s Word, allowed it to sink into their hearts and minds, and overall grew in their faith.

In our daily faith, it is just as important to keep motivated to seek God’s Word, to memorize it, meditate on it, and keep in your heart. God uses His Word to speak to us, guide us, and lead us to where we should go. Like those students, let’s find pure joy in understanding His Word, seeking the context, asking the questions, and overall growing in our faith. Regardless of how we choose to do it- one word at a time, phrases upon phrases, or verse by verse- let us be intentional about spending time with God, acknowledging the authority of His Word, and living within those truths.

Prayer: Father God, thank You for Your Word, the Truth that You have given us. May we not take it for granted, but seek to grow in it, spend time in it and with You every single day. Reveal to us the importance of it and guide us through it as we seek You earnestly. Change our hearts, that this reading is not just another book, but a life transformation by faith and trust in You. We praise You. In Jesus Name, Amen.
