Love-the Perfect Example

by Harry Ulep on February 14, 2023

“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.”  1 Corinthians 13:4-8

In the February season, it is easy to go literally anywhere and see the splashes of red, pink, and white over everything. It is the season of Valentine’s Day. It is a day often associated with couples showing their love to another, yet for some, this season can be a reminder of their singleness, feeling alone, or their desires to be in a relationship. But rarely do we see this season utilized to acknowledge and remind ourselves of the One who provides an unmatched love and quite literally IS love.

In 1 John 4:8, it states that “Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love”. This is such a glorious truth because it reveals to us the character and heart of God. He is completely rich in love and compassion that simply describes His very being. It is His fondness, His friendship, His will to do what is best and working things for the good of those who love Him! Without Him, we wouldn’t have any concept of love at all!

And we see this love defined even further in 1 Corinthians, describing love in various fashions. It reveals to us that God is patient and kind. God keeps no record of wrongs. He protects, trusts, hopes, and perseveres. His love is a perfect love that can only be attributed to Him. First Corinthians 13 is often utilized during this season and during weddings to be a reminder of what love should look like or as an encouragement to continue loving one another, but what better and perfect example of this than God Himself? The most known and acknowledged Bible verse is John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life”. In a season where some may feel alone or without love, while others are looking for the perfect example of love in the midst of a culture that is imperfect, set your eyes on God. Be reminded that His love for you is beyond all measure and abundantly more than we could ever imagine. We are never loveless because we will always have the love God.

Prayer: Father God, may we fix our eyes on You in this season. You are loving in every way imaginable and beyond our understanding. May we embrace Your love for us and not feel isolated or alone, but leaning into who You are and what You have done and will continue to do. May you be glorified and may we love You in return. Amen.
