Good Deeds that Glorify God

by Justin Linscheid on March 22, 2024

“If you have two shirts, give one to the poor. If you have food, share it with those who are hungry.” Luke 3:11

One simple example of this verse being lived out is our Food For You ministry at Lincoln Church. We give out groceries and other needed commodities like diapers to our local community. For one, it allows a way for people to have a need met. Secondly, it provides a tangible opportunity to express the kind of compassionate life that God calls us to live as His followers.

Jesus said, “Let your good deeds shine before others so that your heavenly Father may be glorified” (Mt. 5:16). When we step out in the name of Jesus to love others and glorify God, there is inherent goodness in that process, no matter the visible result or response.

What good can you do today so that God might be seen and His love expressed through your actions? Take a moment to ask God to lead you to live this kind of life. This is love in action. How can your love for God and others be expressed in a tangible act of service today? It doesn’t have to be anything huge, though it can be. In the scriptural example, it was simply giving away an extra shirt. Simple is just fine. I encourage you to go and do what God might be prompting you to do and I pray with you that God would be glorified!
