Getting Along With Others

by Lorna Zink on January 15, 2021

"A new commandment I give you love one another..." John 13:34

Some of you may have heard of Joseph Campbell. He was a world renown expert on mythology. Many years ago, he did television conversations with Bill Moyers. Although he passed away in the 1980’s, much of what he said is so very relevant today. One thing in particular stays in my mind even today. He thought every person should go up into outer space and look at planet earth. What we would see is one earth and one people. Joseph Campbell thought mankind’s greatest challenge was to learn to get along.

Of course, as Christians we know God created the universe including earth and its people. We know God so loved the world that He gave to us His Son, Jesus Christ. We are so fortunate to have the Bible to guide us in “how to get along”:

  • Love God, love one another
  • Be slow to anger, quick to listen
  • Forgive
  • Follow God’s way
  • Be humble

The list could go on and on.

It is so easy to think about others during the Christmas season, but now that we are in the next month, we should still be thinking about caring. God's perspective of His people on earth is wonderful.  Take one more look at the picture of the earth.  Keep celebrating God’s great love and keep passing on His love to others.  We can sure use God’s help in this business of getting along.
