Faithfulness

by Lise Bachman-Karnes on February 17, 2024

When I was younger, I remember thinking that if I was in a life-or-death situation that God wouldn’t mind if I renounced Him to save my life. That was very foolish on my part. Most of the disciples endured beatings and stonings and ultimately were killed in gruesome ways for proclaiming their faith. Over time, I developed the conviction that they didn’t renounce Christ and I shouldn’t either, no matter the cost.

I remember reading about Christians who were attacked by Nazi soldiers. Not only did they not renounce Jesus, but they also fell to their knees and prayed for the soldiers who were slaughtering them. I think this is the example we should be following.

I hear about Christians in other countries who can be arrested and possibly killed for assembling with other Christians or having a Bible. I admire them greatly and am thankful to live in a country where we can worship openly. I wish that more people took advantage of that freedom.

Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for He who promised is faithful.” Hebrews 10:23
