I was out watering what’s left of our garden the other day and I started thinking about the old cowboy song Clear Water. This song was from back in the 40’s which was before my time and explains why I don’t remember much of it. The song is about an old cowboy and his horse Dan. It talks about their hopeless struggle in life and their search to meet their needs and desires, in this case, water.
So many people are living lives in barren waste and desperately trying to find something to fill it, something to give hope and to relieve their pain.
He goes on to say:
The song paints a picture of our struggle, our searching to find what might help give us what we think we need and our battles with temptations and false promises.
So what’s the answer as we travel through life searching for the water we need? Jesus gave the answer to the woman at the well in John 4:13-14 …, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”
