Clean Hands

by Heidi Verheyden on May 23, 2020

"I shall wash my hands in innocence,And I will go about Your altar, O Lord" Psalm 26:6

Over the past few weeks, there has been a great deal of focus on washing our hands. Video tutorials have been created about it, memes have been made, rhymes have been written, and many other systems of helping have been introduced. The emphasis of encouraging people to truly get our hands clean and fight the germs of the virus is clearly before us.

Recently, the song “Give Me clean hands” came to mind and I began to sing it and meditate on the scripture that it is based on. Psalm 24:3-6 states:

“Who may ascend the hill of the LORD? Who may stand in His holy place? He who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not lift up his soul to an idol or swear deceitfully. He will receive blessing from the LORD and vindication from the God of his salvation. Such is the generation of those who seek Him, who seek Your face, O God of Jacob. “

Each time you think about washing your hands to prevent the spread of the COVID-19, take it a step further and really ponder and seek after the Lord. The scripture is truly clear that we need to be clean and pure, people completely seeking the Lord. Here are some questions for reflection:

Do I have clean hands and a pure heart before the Lord?

Do I scrub to remove the grim, dirt and junk that will make me unclean before the Lord?

Am I allowing things to stay in my life or am I truly getting a good scrub and removing the unwanted areas so I can be pure and blameless before the Lord?

Be pro-active and God to scrub (forgive) your sins, remove your temptations and anything that is not uplifting to the Lord. Let's seek and ask the Lord for a pure heart. Together let’s be a generation that seeks after the Lord.
