Several days ago, I read a wonderful devotional titled, Never Alone, by Bill Crowder which mentioned the song, “You’ll Never Walk Alone”. Even though this beautifully poignant song is not a song expressing faith in Christ, it is one that drives my heart to God’s Word and the many verses that remind me of Jesus’ love for me, and that He will never leave me or forsake me (Deuteronomy 31:8; Psalm 23:4; Matthew 28:20).
The song was composed in 1945 by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein ll for the musical “Carousel”, and later became the theme song for the Liverpool, England FC Soccer Club. This beautiful song always brings tears to my eyes and immediately makes me think of the loving, powerful and everlasting relationship we have with our Lord.
Below are lyrics for this song:
When you walk through a storm
Hold your head up high
And don't be afraid of the dark
At the end of a storm
There's a golden sky
And a sweet silver song of a lark
Walk on through the wind
Walk on through the rain
Or your dreams be tossed and blown
Walk on! Walk on! With hope in your heart
And you'll never walk alone
You'll never walk alone
Walk on! Walk on! With hope in your heart
And you'll never walk alone
You'll never walk alone
When I come to the words, “Walk on! Walk on! With hope in your heart” it makes me think of where my hope is found, a true hope that can only be found in my relationship with Christ, and because of that relationship I know I will never walk alone.
I’ve included the link, below, for the song “You’ll Never Walk Alone” sung by Andrea Bocelli. I hope you will find, even though it wasn’t intended as a song of praise, is still as inspiring and beautiful as if it were.
So, the next time you feel you may be alone, turn God’s Word and find comfort in verses like, Deuteronomy 31:8, Psalm 23:4, Matthew 28:19-20 and Romans 8:35; 8:38-39 for encouragement and the confidence to know Jesus is, has been, and always will be with you every step of the way. In fact, He not only walking with you, He also lives in you (John14:20; John 17:20-23).
How profound and comforting are the words, “You’ll Never Walk Alone!”
