"Enoch walked with God then he was no more." Genesis 5:24
Many years ago, I heard a story and I don't know if it is true or not, but for sake of this devotion it works. There was a small town and they had a newspaper (remember the thing that was delivered to your door not through the internet). There was a really nice woman who had lived there for many years in a certain house. Apparently, the house was the one she grew up in. In her early 90's she passed away. The newspaper only had volunteer writers - one sports person, a local new person, and one person who wrote about national and international news. Well the the two news writers were out of town for a month, and so it was important for the sports writer to put something together in the local newspaper. He did all kinds of research on this woman and couldn't really find much out about her. As result, he entitled the obituary, "No Hits, No Runs and No Errors." She hadn't done much that was memorable in a good day or bad way. She basically had just existed.
Here is this incredible verse about Enoch in Genesis 5. Several people are listed and every one of them is listed in a similar way: name, total number of years, who their son was, and then a proclamation of death. Enoch was spoken of differently, "A man who walked with God."
Are you known by God, have you trusted Him with all your heart, soul and mind? Do you walk with God - pursuing righteous behavior, purity of thought, and a lifestyle that imitates Jesus? So often we spend time telling God what we want, and asking Him for things. Enoch teaches us differently - he walked with God. He knew God and he obeyed God.
One of the great reasons for reading the Bible regularly is knowing how the people of God walked and learning from them. My prayer today is that you and walk with God. This may be a great time to join a small group Bible Study and get a little help from a small group.
