“If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land” 2 chronicles 7:14
I loved vending machines as a kid. I didn’t have much money, so like any other thing I wanted money for, I would go to the park and start looking for coke bottles to get a little change. Three cents for the bottle and five cents for the cardboard container that held six bottles. That was twenty-three cents. It seemed like I was rich.
The vending machine had that element of many choices and a little bit of risk with would it really dispense what I was trying to purchase. My friend’s dad used to say, “Vending machines are training for slot machines. Don’t ever trust them.”
Vending machines worked in a very simple way. You put in your money and press the button and then you get what you want. Somehow this seems like it doesn’t apply to prayer.
We are to ask in Jesus’ name. Wanting what He wants. Trusting Him more than ourselves. He is not a genie in a bottle. He is not a butler waiting for our every command. And He is not an employee to be bossed around.
When we pray, we are taking the time to put our wishes and our desires in synchronization with Him, not asking Him to line up with our desires.
Don’t forget this. Vending machines make mistakes from time to time in their delivery, the amount of change they give, not having any of your favorite treats left, and even getting the product jammed and not being able to deliver the product.
God doesn’t make mistakes. He is always present, is never overwhelmed, He doesn’t make mistakes and He loves us. And when we call to Him, we are to remember who we are talking to at that moment.
Seek Him and speak to Him often.
