This week, Lincoln Presbyterian Church is having a one week long prayer emphasis – partnering with many churches in Stockton. It is our hope to have at least one person in prayer every hour of every day this week. Each Word of Encouragement is around a portion of the Lord’s Prayer.
“Teach me to do Your will, For You are my God” Psalm 143:10
Many people have calendars on their phones, and they even have To-Do Lists on their phone. And some still use a piece of paper and pencil and take the time to write each thing that needs to be done, purchased, remembered or even important to tell others that day. A good description of these items would be our desires for the day, or our will for the day. Truth is, many people go through the day and simply add things to their list without ever accomplishing their original ‘will’ and desires for the day. In fact, if you are like me, maybe you have even taken a moment and added something to the list your spouse has because there is something you’d like to have done, want them to do, or simply don’t want to do yourself.
Stop and pause for a moment, what if God had a list for us each day or even an item? Truth be told He does – and it is simply that His will would be done. That His agenda would be first. Here are several great phrases from Scripture that can remind us of the importance of the fact that as believers, we are His and His will should be at the top of our list every day.
+“This is the day that the Lord has made, I will rejoice and be glad in it.” Psalm 118:24
+“Whatever you do in word or deed, do all to the glory of God.” Colossians 3:17
+Jesus before His death, “Yet not My will, but Yours be done” Luke 2:42
There is a little added phrase to this thought of “Thy will be done,” and it is “on earth as it is in heaven.” This is a reminder that there is complete unity in God and there is not a sense of selfishness, rather there is a sense of working together.
Let’s have today be about what God wants and not what we want.
