“Taste and see that the LORD is good. Oh, the joys of those who take refuge in Him!” Psalm 34:8
“The Proof is in the Pudding” is an expression used to say that the real worth, success, or effectiveness of something can only be determined by putting it to the test by trying or using it, appearances and promises aside—just as the best test of a pudding is to eat it. I could describe to you the best pudding I ever ate, show you a picture of it, offer reviews, etc. But, the best way for you to know is to simply taste and experience it for yourself.
God is a wonderful and amazing God. His love for us is unending and in His overwhelming grace, God meets us where we are. These are Biblical truths that are communicated in Scripture. Yet, they can only truly be comprehended when we make ourselves vulnerable before God and trust in Him. The person who truly trusts in God not only knows cognitively that God is good but knows the joyful experience of being in a relationship with Him. Here are a couple application thoughts based on this.
First, you may have heard a lot about God in your life, but never taken the step to open up to God and trust in Him. God doesn’t want you to simply know about Him, God wants you to experience a relationship with Him. So, as God’s Word says, taste and see for yourself that He truly is good. Experience the joy of trusting in God and making Jesus Christ your refuge, your Lord and Savior.
Secondly, for the Christian, perhaps there have been seasons of doubt for you. I encourage you to recall the ways that you have experienced God’s faithfulness through the years. Consider that as you continue to apply God’s truth in your life that it changes you for the better and leads you from darkness to light.
If God were not true to who the Bible says He is, we should expect God to be reluctant to make a call for us to trust Him and experience Him for ourselves. But God is the real deal. He knows that as we “bite” into Him, giving Him our hearts, we will experience the reality that He truly is as good and His Word says He is.
