The LORD had said to Abram, “Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you. “I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.” Genesis 12:1-3
Bless, Blessed, Blessing… I have heard and used these words all my life, but with little thought. However, in a recent Bible study, while reading Genesis 12, I noted God blessed Abraham, and through Abraham God blessed all the people on earth. I have read these words before, but again, with little thought. I decided to look deeper. What does it mean to be blessed? The Biblical meaning of blessed is to be happy or blissful, and/or simply self-content.
Psalms 32: 1-2, reads, “Blessed is the one whose transgressions are forgiven and whose sins are covered.”
Mathew 28: 18-20 reads; “And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
Considering these Biblical passages, we, as Christians, are blessed beyond anything we can imagine. Our transgressions are forgiven. Jesus died for our sins. We have received the gifts of life, grace, fellowship, and have been given amazing purpose. Through Abraham, we are blessed. Through us, others can be blessed. We can give the greatest blessing of all by simply sharing our faith, and our salvation. What greater cause of joy is there? Go forth, share, be blessed, and bless others!
