Have you ever longed for good advice? People pay good money for that sort of thing. It is valuable. In fact, the Bible tells us as much. Proverbs 8:10-11 tells us, “Choose my instruction rather than silver, and knowledge rather than pure gold. For wisdom is far more valuable than rubies. Nothing you desire can compare with it.” The amazing thing is that God freely gives this precious commodity. He has given us His word, and a book like Proverbs in particular, that we might grow in sound judgement and wisdom. Biblically, God is described as a loving Father who longs to impart true wisdom and knowledge to His children. For our part, we are told to cry out for this wisdom and search for it more than we would precious treasure, to open our hearts. The God who created everything is telling us that He wants to freely give us something far more valuable than the treasures of this world.
Do you want to grow in wisdom, trustworthy instruction, perception, understanding, prudence, knowledge, and discretion? The book of Proverbs tells us that its contents hold the key to such gems. As we reflect on the Proverbs, especially under the illuminating guidance of the Holy Spirit, we will learn wisdom. God will impart wisdom to apply to relationships, character, finances, emotions, marriage, and various situations you will face in life.
God doesn’t want you to live life alone. He is a Father Who loves you. Take His hand and listen to His instruction. Fight to keep this as a top priority, for the thief who comes to steal, kill and destroy (Jn. 10:10) is certainly wanting to take something as valuable as this from your life.
For the next 31 days, read a chapter of Proverbs each day. Before you start, ask the Holy Spirit to open your ears and heart to hear and receive what your Heavenly Father longs for you to apply.
