Surprise Encouragement

by Alyssa Linscheid on August 23, 2023

“Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.”  1 Thessalonians 5:11

The other day my friend gave me a pretty wrapped present and said, “this is for you.” I was surprised because it wasn’t my birthday or a holiday so I asked, “what is this for?” And she said “Because I love you, and because I was reading this devotional and kept feeling a prompting from God that I need to give this book to Alyssa. She needs encouragement.”

When I got home and opened the card included with the book it said, “Hope you are encouraged and reminded that you are seen, loved and known by God as well as me.” What a great friend and word of encouragement!

I started thinking about what my friend said and realized that I did need encouragement right now and I didn’t even realize it. God knows what we need even before we do. Trust Him that He’ll use those around you as well as His Word to speak into your life. I am also reminded that it’s so important to be in tune with the Holy Spirit’s voice and leading. My friend listened and obeyed when she felt prompted to give me that devotional book. If we open our ears to Him and set aside the distractions of this world, we give the Holy Spirit space to work in and through us.

“And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds,  not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.” Hebrews 10:24-25

“The Lord is near to all who call on Him, to all who call on Him in truth.” Psalm 145:18
