Such As I have Give I Thee

by Jon Hathorn on May 09, 2020

" But Peter said, “I do not possess silver and gold, but what I do have I give to you: In the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene—walk!” Acts 3:6

God never desired for me to be someone else.  He designed me to be me.  Certain personality traits, mental capacities, physical characteristics, emotional  make up, fingerprints, vision capabilities, hair and eye color, as well a distinct sense of humor.  There are times, when I have appreciated others strengths and distinguishing marks of these in their lives, and actually wished for moments that I could have what they have.  You know a bit of wonder what it would be like to be wiser, taller during basketball and shorter when I bump my head, straighter hair on certain days and curlier hair on others.

As I give of myself in service, there are times when I wish I could do more and get by with less sleep, and give more emotionally or for longer periods of time. God has asked me to give, and to give what it is I have, how He has made me.  I want to be obedient and I want to serve - It really is a desire of mine.  But all too often, we look at another and say, why can't I do and give what they are doing and give what they are giving.

Peter and John were on their way to the temple and they gave what they had.  In this instance, it was the gift of healing this man.  Could have been money for a day, but they didn't have any money.  Could have been a wheelchair, but they didn't have one. It was what they had, the power of the Holy Spirit. - the gift of walking.

I hope that we will give to others in whatever capacity it is that we have - talent of listening, a blessing of wisdom, a gift of a baked good, an encouraging note, a vacuumed house, a bowl of soup, even a prayer of graciousness to the king of kings.  See yourself as a giver, not equal to anyone else's actual gift, but equal in heart of love and serving the king of kings.

Here is a great thought "Not equal giving, but equal sacrifice." The kingdom of God is blessed and God is glorified as we practice a giving heart, a giving mind, and giving with whatever resources He has blessed us with.
