Standing Firm

by Marcos Schultz on November 12, 2024

The recipients of Peter’s letter were persecuted followers of Jesus.

He’s telling them to hold on strong.

That is the long and short of his writing.

We already saw that 1P 5.10 tells us that after we have suffered, the God of grace will help us out.

Two verses later (5.12), Peter, summing up his “brief letter”, informs us that this is the true grace of God.

"I have written briefly to you, exhorting and declaring that this is the true grace of God. Stand firm in it." 1 Peter 5.12a

The advice he has given us to make it through the tough times, is the true grace of God.

And, since he has told us it isn’t easy, he adds, “Stand firm in it.”

Three verses previously, he wanted us firm as well.

"Resist him (Satan), firm in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world." 1 Peter 5.9

Firm in faith, firm in grace.

It’s a trusty combo.

It doesn’t say it is easy. But by His grace we can do it.
