"To everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under heaven: a time to be born, and a time to die." Ecclesiastes 3
One day, I’ll be gone. So will you. So sorry if that seems blunt, but it’s true. We will leave this present world through death. I’ve always thought it weird to completely ignore something inevitable in other things, so why do so many people ignore the inevitable about death? Now, some more bad news. Unless you’re someone famous like Abraham Lincoln or Babe Ruth, people will probably all but forget you after a generation or two. You probably could have gone all day without hearing such “encouraging” words.
So what should we do, how should we act, and what should we say about such a reality? Here is a possibility: deepen a relationship with God through Jesus Christ, and practice the things that Jesus practiced. Jesus said, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” in John 14:6. Trust Him for your future because there is more to life than this world. There is heaven. Jesus put it this way: “And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am” in John 14:3.
Secondly, choose to make your life about investing in the things that will outlive you. Consider “pouring” your time, energy, and focus into knowing God better, serving others, doing acts of kindness, enjoying fellowship with other believers, and telling others about Jesus Christ. In other words, actively living out your faith in daily life; essentially dedicating yourself to deepening your relationship with God and following His teachings to positively impact the world around you. That’s good news, not bad news. Ephesians 5:1 says it well: "Be imitators of Christ, therefore, as dearly loved children and live a life of love."
