“Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making His appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.” 2 Corinthians 5:20
Ambassador, Noun: A diplomatic representative of the highest rank, sent by one sovereign to another as its resident representative.
Isaiah 55:9 says, “For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts higher than your thoughts.” As believers, God lives in us. Do we live Him out in our thoughts, words, and actions? If the perspective with which we view the world comes from ourselves or other humans, then our thoughts, words, and actions are filtered pretty much through a self-bent, flawed human lens. Then when we open our mouths, our well-intentioned earthly words are inherently flawed and low level. We act as ambassadors of ourselves and others because we haven’t elevated our thinking to that Way that’s higher than ours. Our lives will have no “Higher Way” impact on the world because we never ventured beyond human thought. It seems that most of humanity currently lives at this level. It’s shallow, superficial, and self-centered. Everyone is their own god, and gods have egos that feel compelled to fight other egos.
2 Corinthians 5:20 says, “Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making His appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.” The part that says, “making His appeal through us” means we are to represent the Higher Way when we form our thoughts, speak, and interact. It’s only viewing the world through a biblical lens and tapping into Scripture that we can think, speak and act as true ambassadors of Christ, which is that Higher Way. So, let’s climb within the minds God gave us, and reach for the Higher Way, His way, to reconcile ourselves with God, and become ambassadors of Christ. We are “diplomatic” which means tactful, polite, gracious, respectful. We are “of the highest rank.” And we are sent by The “One Sovereign” God as representatives from His residence in heaven. Those are big shoes to fill, and we won’t fit into them if we keep our thoughts on earthly things. We can only walk in those ambassador’s shoes if we elevate our ways and thoughts to truly mimic the mind of God in heaven. Knowing the Word is what makes those ambassador’s shoes fit.
Both low level human thoughts and Higher Way thoughts have eternal impacts on people, and the level with which we think, speak, and act determines for whom we are ambassadors. Let’s choose the Higher Way, and live as ambassadors of our God who’s watching and guiding us.
