Shaped by the Potter

by Justin Linscheid on January 08, 2025

Sometimes God uses the simplest things to teach us profound truths. This morning, while watching a show with my daughter about a snowman coming to life, I had a moment of reflection. It struck me that a snowman is really just water, yet water can take so many forms: steam, liquid, solid, snowflakes—and yes, even a snowman. Its shape depends on the environment and the touch it receives.
In the same way, our lives are shaped by the environments we’re in and the influences we allow. Yet the most transformative “touch” comes when we place ourselves in the hands of our Creator. Isaiah 64:8 says, “But now, O Lord, you are our Father; we are the clay, and you are our potter; we are all the work of your hand.”
Like water taking shape or clay in the potter’s hands, God can mold us into something far beyond our imagination—if we let Him. The key is remaining pliable, open, and willing to be shaped by Him.
Take a moment today to consider the “climate” of your life. Are you creating an environment where God’s hands can work freely? Cultivate a climate centered on being with God and trust that He is shaping you with care and purpose because He is your Father who loves you.
