Seek The Lord While He May Be Found

by Justin Linscheid on June 18, 2024

“Seek the Lord while you can find him.
Call on him now while he is near.
Let the wicked change their ways
and banish the very thought of doing wrong.
Let them turn to the Lord that he may have mercy on them.
Yes, turn to our God, for he will forgive generously.”
Isaiah 55:6-7

“To you who are seekers, to you, young and old who have toiled all night and caught nothing, but who want to launch out into the deeps and let down your nets for a catch, I want to speak, as simply, as tenderly, as clearly as I can. For God can be found. There is a last Rock for your souls, a resting place of absolute peace and joy and power and radiance and security. There is a walk with God into which you can enter, a life where you live with Him, and of which you see all of life.” -Thomas Kelly

How often have we been like the disciples of Jesus, fishing all night, only to come up empty handed? Of course, I’m not talking about literal fishing. I am talking about fishing for meaning, for hope, for satisfaction, for peace, for happiness, for direction, for true life. It’s the feeling of, “there has got to be something more to life than this…” And we’ve let down our nets all over the place only to pull them up empty again. Yet at Jesus’ command, the disciples let down their nets and pulled in a haul they could not even fit into their boat without it sinking! They were full to overflowing.

How often have we relied on our own ability to generate what only God can give? We let down our nets hoping for a meal and sail home hungry.

The Lord of Heaven and Earth, Creator of the sea and all the fish in it, invites us to seek Him. He makes Himself available, accessible, and approachable to us. Call on Him and discover that He is near to you, generously offering mercy and grace.

If we reject God, there will come a day when God can no longer be found by us. How tragic to pull up an empty net for all eternity. Why not receive God’s gracious invitation to know Him and walk through life with Him? Turn to Him in your heart and call on Him. He is there. Let down your nets into His presence.
