“I am the good shepherd; I know My sheep and My sheep know Me…” John 10:14
Each day as I leave the house, my kids and I engage in some funny banter back and forth. It started with the phrase "see you later alligator," then grew into "you're handsome," "you’re a peach" and several other phrases that are just plain goofy. For the longest time, this interaction was with only my oldest. The younger two, who are currently three and half and two didn’t speak so we exchanged hugs and kisses before leaving. Once they started using words to communicate, they wanted to participate in the fun. So, we have about five-minute time of verbal fun as I go out the door each day. This allows each of us to share many, many funny sayings in each day.
Other than being a funny way to leave the house, I don't know how much value this has. But when I stopped and thought about it, the fact that we take the time and have made it special is a blessing. We are showing one another that we care enough to spend time and have fun together. Since the younger kids have seen it take place, they wanted to take part in this little time. Everyone also has a cool nickname that we use to describe one another. These names have come from things that happened or was just plain given to them. There is a meaning behind it.
Their creativity amazes me. They have come up with crazy names several days of each week. They think of new and fun nicknames and so have I.
This has recently reminded me that the Lord has many names. Each one has a special meaning and purpose that display the different characteristics of God. What are some meaningful names of God to you? Have you ever just taken the time to call out to God 10-15 names that He is known by, and simply adore Him by calling Him by these names?
