Psalm 8

by Lise Bachman-Karnes on October 05, 2024

“What is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them? Yet you have made them a little lower than the angels and crowned them with glory and honor.” Psalm 8:4-5

Having spent most of my working life dealing with deviant behavior it is comforting to know that we can worship God and follow his ways rather than getting caught up with some addiction or perversion. Christians talk about hearing that still small voice and I think that is one way we are crowned with glory and honor. It is truly an honor to hear from God. We are special in His eyes.

This psalm is written by King David and we know he heard from God on a regular basis. Even though he sinned greatly, God calls him a man after God’s own heart.

“I have found David, son of Jesse, a man after my own heart: he will do everything I want him to do.” Acts 13:22

I think that David is a beautiful example of following the Lord. When you look at the Psalms you can see that he regularly spoke with God and sought his direction. That is a worthy path to follow.

Staying regular in worship and reading the Bible are important ways to do that. The psalms are actually prayers and can guide us in our own prayers including prayers of supplication for the church family and others. In particular, we learn from this psalm that God cares for us. Praise the Lord!
