praying

Paul shares with the Colossians how he prays for them.
It is not “Oh, God, by the way, please bless the Colossians.”
It starts off with:
And so, from the day we heard,
we have not ceased to pray for you,
asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will
in all spiritual wisdom and understanding.
—Colossians 1:9
Being filled with the knowledge of His will—how interesting that Paul starts with that. Know His will, in all spiritual wisdom. Not exactly sure what that entails, but it sure sounds like something I want.
And understanding. I wonder if the previous adjective applies here as well, thus meaning, “in all spiritual wisdom and spiritual understanding.”
Paul’s prayer challenges us to seek more than just surface-level knowledge of God. It’s a call to be filled with His will through spiritual wisdom and understanding. As we pray for ourselves and others, let’s ask for the kind of insight that helps us not only know God’s will but live it out in our everyday decisions, guided by His Spirit.
