Plane-Car-Fire Truck

by Heidi Verheyden on March 20, 2023

"Then Jesus declared, 'I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to Me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in Me will never be thirsty.'"  John 6:35

Driving around town with kids is such an adventure! My kids are unique in that they LOVE traffic! You read that right, they love traffic! I have never understood it, but being stuck or stopped in traffic with them you would be amazed at what happens. It is an absolute joy and crack up at the conversations I hear from the back seats. Here is what a mere 10-15 seconds might sound like in loud voices. “Red car!  Bulldozer! Fast car! Semi-truck! Airplane! Firetruck! Firetruck!”  And the excitement goes on with each car being named and all the pointing of fingers and intense sound increasing to make sure their siblings see what they have just seen.

One of the times we saw an emergency vehicle near a car crash scene. The kids saw the lights and wanted to know more about what was going on. I explained the emergency, and the people that had come to help. At the end of it, the kids asked to pray for the people. What a wonderful thought!  Since that time, when our kids see an emergency vehicle, there is still the awe of the first responders, then they ask for us to pray for the people.

As we pray for the situation. It starts with prayer over the first responders, then the situation and to the people the responders are heading to and in need of help.  The last part we ask about is the most important.  We ask the Lord to soften their heart so they will hear the good news, that this moment will cause them to see their need for a savior, and that someone will share with them.

I encourage you to pause to pray today, whenever you hear an emergency vehicle, that it would not only be for physical healing, but that they would become aware of their spiritual needs and how that cannot be fulfilled by their own power, but through the Lord Jesus Christ.
