For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. 20 For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.”  Romans 1:19-20

Artificial General Intelligence, or AGI, is the new buzz in this world. In man’s quest to lord over himself by using computational power, it’s estimated that well over 1 trillion dollars will be spent by big tech within the next five years. It’s staggering. The input of every bit of data available combined with the incredible computing power being built will change everything about how humans interact in the world. Elon Musk states that AGI will probably be smarter than any single human by the end of 2025, and within five years will exceed that of the entire human race combined. This will depend on how fast the infrastructure can be built, but big tech is determined. For context, the current form of AI is an infant compared to the five year old AGI adult that Elon Musk is talking about.

It’s like man has finally found a way to create not a god, but God. For those who do not believe in our God, AGI will become the god they worship. A request will be made for anything, and without prayer, obedience, sacrifice, or conscience, AGI will churn the data, and in seconds that request will be granted. It’s projected that AGI’s exponential machine learning speed will make it capable of creating neural networks on its own that have never existed, think 2001: A Space Odyssey, Terminator, The Matrix. You get the idea. AGI will be the idol of idols for those who think of it as the ultimate iteration of existence because they can touch it, see it’s amazing works, and count on it to satisfy the desires of their hearts.

Let’s replace the word “your” with “AGI” in Isaiah 55:8-9.  It would say, “For my thoughts are not AGI’s thoughts, neither are AGI’s ways my ways, declares the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than AGI’s ways and my thoughts higher than AGI’s thoughts.” AGI will never know everything about everyone who has and will ever live. God does. It cannot knit a tiny human being in the womb, and program it to grow to adulthood. God can. It surely cannot create an entire, infinite universe out of nothing. God did. It cannot send its son to earth to live, teach, suffer, die, and be resurrected for the salvation of those who believe. God has. It has no clue what heaven and hell really are, or how to determine with absolute accuracy where one will go based on the belief in one’s heart. God knows. And AGI cannot fight a spiritual battle with an enemy, and decimate it with a breath. God will. Practically speaking, regardless of how powerful AGI becomes, completely cutting the power source on AGI will render it totally useless. God and His power will never, ever be cut.
