“Don’t just pretend to love others. Really love them.” Romans 12:9
Love is ultimately an action. I’ve been reminded before by God that I say that I love people and think of myself as loving them, but what am I doing in my actions to show them that I sincerely love them?
Romans 12:13 says, “When God’s people are in need, be ready to help them. Always be eager to practice hospitality.”
As I meditate on these two verses from the book of Romans, I have to honestly consider how well I am doing at this. To take it a step further, how well are we doing this with the people that we would not necessarily consider friends?
In this world, we are each indebted to God’s love and hospitality. He created this world and gave us life. He welcomes us into His home forever. Despite our flaws, He has loved us and put that love into action. May this stir our hearts to show the same kind of love to others. And when we feel resistant, let us remember the great love that God has demonstrated toward us.
Let’s not just say we love others. Let’s sincerely love them.
