Joy in this Moment

Philippians 4:12-13, “12 I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. 13 I can do all this through Him who gives me strength.”

"Enjoy this moment, for this moment is your life.”

Once again, my wife had a quote by her bedside that spoke to me.

At times in my life, I have struggled with a “grass is greener” mentality.

I long for the wonderful vacation I once had. I look forward to new and exciting things. I anticipate fun and meaning in future seasons of life. This is not necessarily bad, but it can be if it is a habit that comes at the expense of joy in my present moments.

I remember one older wiser person saying to me while I was in college, “When I was in college, I couldn’t wait to graduate and “get started with life”. Then I started a job and I wanted to advance in it. Then I advanced in it, and I wanted to advance in family life. I got married, and not long after desired children. I had children and longed for the days when I had more flexibility and free time before they came along. They eventually grew up and left the house. Now I have more free time and I’m lonely. I want my kids back home. Learn to love the season of your life right here and now or your life will pass you by before you know it and you will be left with the realization that you spent your life wishing it away.”

Enjoy this moment, for this moment too, is your life. This moment is God’s gift to you. It may not be free of challenge, pain, or suffering. Yet it is God’s gift to you. What is it that God is teaching you in this season? How is He using it to draw you nearer to Him? How is He wanting to use it to help you to become more like Him? How is this moment of your life a gift to others? This moment and God’s presence with you in it is a gift to you from Him.

Enjoy this moment, for this moment is your life.
