“Oh come, let us sing to the Lord! Let us shout to the Rock of our salvation. Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving.” Psalm 95:1-2
The other day I read a great story- let me share it with you.
A dad took his children to a restaurant. His 6-year-old son asked if he could say the prayer for their meal. The little guy’s prayer went something like this, “God is great and God is good, let us thank Him for our food. And I would thank you more God if mom or dad would get us ice cream for dessert, with liberty and justice for all. Amen.”
Along with the joyful laughter of nearby customers was heard a woman’s remark, “This is exactly what is wrong with our country. Kids don’t know how to pray. Asking God for ice cream. Why I never!”
Hearing this, the little guy burst into tears thinking he had prayed incorrectly. He asked his dad if he had done something wrong. His dad said, “I thought it was a terrific prayer.”
An older man came by the table and winked his eye at the little guy. He said, “great prayer little man! Too bad that lady has never asked God for ice cream because ice cream is good for the soul.”
Naturally, mom and dad bought ice cream for the kids. The 6-year-old looked at his ice cream sundae and then he did something that will be long remembered. He picked up his sundae and walked over to the woman who had made the mean remark. He placed the ice cream in front of her and with a big smile told her, “Here, this is for you. Ice cream is really good for the soul and my soul is good already.”
How is your soul today? Perhaps a prayer of thanks and some ice cream could do all of us some good. Eat up!
