“Give to the Lord the glory he deserves! Bring your offering and come into his presence. Worship the Lord in all his holy splendor.” 1 Chronicles 16:29
I truly enjoy dressing up for church. Choosing my outfit in advance and making sure everything looks just right adds to the joy of the experience. It’s always a lovely bonus when my husband gives me a word of approval!
I think this habit started back in my childhood. Unlike many of the other kids, we weren’t allowed to wear our school clothes to church. My father had specific outfits he considered appropriate, believing that God deserved our very best. He would wear his robe while preaching and a suit otherwise.
While I may not be as strict as my dad was, I still find a lot of joy in dressing up. When I go out after church, it’s a nice reminder to others that it’s Sunday.
I recently heard about someone’s granddaughter who wanted to wear her new sweats to church because that was her best outfit. I can completely understand where she’s coming from—she’s being reverent, which is what truly matters. If someone feels comfortable wearing shorts to church and approaches it with respect, then more power to them! What matters is that a person’s heart is in the right place. Personally, I prefer to dress up a bit. Yet regardless of what we wear, we should adorn ourselves with praises and worship unto God.
