“For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:38-39
The other night I had my daughter Jane on the changing table. Her diaper was off and I was ready to put a new one on her when she started coughing and choking on some spit up. I picked her up right away and she peed all over me and my clothes. In the moment, I didn’t even think about the pee on me, I just wanted her to be OK. Fortunately, she coughed the spit-up out and was fine.
Later that day, I sensed God reminding me that this is similar to how He has loved us, still loves us, and always will love us. He is not afraid to roll up His sleeves and get dirty for our sakes. When we make a mess, His primary concern is that we are OK. He took our mess upon Himself on the cross so that we could be made clean and so that we would be OK. He doesn’t make our mess an obstacle that prevents Him from loving us. He has the heart of a good parent who just wants their child to be healthy and OK.
I am thankful for God’s unconditional love. He loves me despite my brokenness, weaknesses, and faults. He doesn’t allow my mess to stop His love or care for me. Instead, He entered my mess to make me clean because of His gracious love for me.
God has this same love for you. Maybe you’ve thought at times that a mistake or mess you made caused God to not like you or love you anymore. The truth is, “where sin abounds, His grace abounds all the more” (Rom. 5:20). Bring your mess to God and allow Him to clean you and give you a fresh start. Allow Him to pick you up in His arms and hold you close. His love for you will never end.
