There are times when we get discouraged and God feels distant. In times when I am tempted to feel like God is uninvolved or that He doesn’t care, I love to remind myself of Jesus’ simple and profound words, “And the very hairs on your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid” (Luke 12:7). Jesus offers reassurance that God is interested in our lives down to the very last detail. He doesn’t take His eyes off of us, not even for a moment. This isn’t meant to make us feel like God is out to get us, but that He is always there for us, deeply values us, and is lovingly attentive.
The more we learn to trust in and receive the simple and profound truth that we are deeply loved and valued by God, the greater freedom and joy we will have in our lives. We will learn to follow God not out of obligation or begrudging obedience, but as an act of loving trust in a Heavenly Father that we know loves us down to the very last hair on our head.
A woman named Hagar once felt alone, abandoned, and destitute. She did not know where she was headed but was trying to escape her present circumstance. God met her right where she was and ministered to her. Hagar left this encounter with God saying, “You are the God who sees me,” for she said, “I have now seen the One who sees me.”
May we too come to see that God sees us and loves us. As Peter, who spent a lot of time with Jesus, said, “Give all your worries and cares to God, for He cares about you” (1 Peter 5:7).
