Fruit Bearing

by Marcos Schultz on December 17, 2024

“…bearing fruit in every good work.” – Colossians 1:10b
I wonder if the difference between merely having knowledge of His will without spiritual wisdom and understanding and having knowledge of His will with spiritual wisdom and understanding, lies in our response? Perhaps we can know His will and yet remain inactive. But spiritual wisdom and understanding may be like spark plugs within us, igniting our hearts to action, so we don’t simply understand His will but are moved to fulfill it.
Here are the verses we’re reflecting on:
“And so, from the day we heard, we have not ceased to pray for you, asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him, bearing fruit in every good work…” – Colossians 1:9-10a
John reminds us that trees—and people—who do not bear fruit are fit only for firewood.
Jesus showed us that a tree, like a beloved nation, that does not produce fruit is destined to wither and dry up.
Bearing fruit is not optional. It’s essential.
Oh Jesus, fill me with the knowledge of what You desire of me, and ignite me to move in line with Your will. Let me bear fruit in every good work, pleasing to You.
