“Those who trust in the Lord, will Mount up with wings like eagles. You will run and not grow weary, you will walk and not faint” Isaiah 40:31
Whether you are a little eaglet learning how to fly or a person in their early 30's enrolled in a pilot training program - there is a learning curve. Eaglets need wing strength and those training to be pilots require an understanding of the dashboard and instrument panel. This takes time, effort and patience. But the work is worth it, because the desire was to learn how to fly - and the results of learning how are incredible.
As a believer in the Lord Jesus our desire should be to please Him and honor Him. This means learning how to honor Him. Here is a simple tip for a journey of learning to honor Him.
Start the day with a prayer and Scripture. Find a place for you and the Lord to talk to each other. Take the time to let God know what you are thinking about Him and what things are on your mind and heart. When you are praying and talking to Him, think ACTS:
A is for Adoration - bless Him with words of affirmation, speak back the wonderful names that He is known by, state to Him the wonderful attributes He has and displays.
C is for Confession - tell Him you are sorry for wrong doing and wrong thinking and admit to Him your failures. He already knows, but this is to help Him know that we are wishing we wouldn't be like this.
T is for Thanking - take the time to let Him know how blessed you are for salvation, abilities, finances, family, memories, and His other provisions.
S is for Supplication - take the time to make requests, ask for wisdom, miracles, health, boldness in sharing your faith, salvation of others, the work of God to be accomplished in the church, for you to be a faithful servant, and for extra strength to be faithful.
As we begin the new year, you may be really good at prayer and you may just be learning. Now is a great time to continue the practice if you are already doing regular prayer - and if you haven't started, it is a great time to start learning and practicing.
I would seriously encourage you to get a notebook and write these prayers out - it really helps keep focus and prevents the mind from wandering because your mind, heart and hands are all working together. God has incredible strength and we need to claim it, use it, and practice having it as a part of our day. Let's be known as people of prayer. And please remember, just like flying it may take a while to develop this habit.
