“Help, Lord, for no one is faithful anymore;
Those who are loyal have finished from the human race.
Everyone lies to their neighbor;
They flatter with their lips
but harbor deceptions in their hearts.”
Psalm 12:1-2
When I read this passage recently it made me think of the situation in our country. There are so many factions and people of differing perspectives that it can come to blows. Among some, even certain colors of people are not acceptable even though we have no control over our skin color.
I have friends of every color and different perspectives, and I like it that way. I want people to share their views with me without feeling that I will shoot them down. It seems at times that the ability to show love through listening and simply thinking things through is lost. It would be hard to miss how divided our country currently is. It is everywhere on the news, social media, etc. I try to remember to pray for our country in addition to more personal issues.
The Psalm ends with this:
“You Lord will keep the needy safe
And will protect us forever from the wicked,
Who freely strut about
When what is vile
Is honored by the human race.”
Psalm 12: 7-8
Even in difficult and divided times, the Lord offers protection and eternal safety to those who trust in Him. Many things in this world that are “vile” are honored in our world. May God help us to live for Him and yet still be prayerful for others and open to listening to them without making them feel that we are against them.
