Don’t Let the Grasshoppers Invade Your Life

by Jim Dunn on February 16, 2022

“There we saw the giants (the descendants of Anak came from the giants) and we were like grasshoppers in our own sight, and so we were in their sight.” (Numbers 13:33)

The Lord had instructed Moses to send men to check out the land of Canaan, which He was giving, yes giving to the children of Israel. They went (read the story in numbers 13) for 40 days. They returned with figs, pomegranates and grapes, bigger and better than they had ever seen.

But-But- But, when you take your eyes off of the Lord and His Word you will always lose your way. Only 2 men, Joshua and Caleb remained faithful, focused and fearless. Why? Because their hope was in the Lord and His promises. Neither Joshua nor Caleb saw themselves as grasshoppers nor losers. They knew with God that all things are possible!

It is impossible in one’s own strength to be a godly winner or an always faithful follower of Jesus Christ when you pre-determine that God won’t and you can’t. We need to believe that God can always do what He says and we will be faithful to His truth.

Think about this:

The winner is always part of the answer;

The loser is always part of the problem;

The winner always has a solution;

The loser always has an excuse;

The winner says ‘let me do it’;

The loser says ‘that’s not my job’;

The winner sees an answer in every problem;

The loser sees a problem in every answer;

The winner says, “It may be difficult, but it is possible”;

The Loser says, “It may be possible but it’s too difficult."

We can make grasshopper choices or we can reflect the faithfulness and fearlessness of Joshua and Caleb. Remember, God did not design you and me to be grasshoppers. Trust God with all your heart!
