“Therefore we do not lose heart , but though our outer man is decaying , yet our inner man is being renewed day by day.” 2 Corinthians 4:16
Very soon after I had read a recent Word of Encouragement written by Denise Miller, I received a phone call from the wife of a very good friend of mine stating that her husband, after a long period of physical and mental decline, had passed away.
During our conversation she told me a very interesting story. One day she had temporarily placed her husband in the living room to watch the TV as a distraction while she took care of some chores in the kitchen. She became aware that he was talking very positively, so she looked into the living room and saw that he was leading someone to Jesus. But there was no one there.
I must tell you that he, a few years previously, had authored a book and given me a copy. On page 56 of that book he wrote “I made a deal with God a long time ago that if He opened an opportunity for me to speak of Christ, I would do so. The Lord and I have had some great times together, and I have witnessed to many who came to Christ.”
Because of our life in Christ, we have great reason for hope and encouragement. Though all of our bodies will eventually decline, the hope and joy of life with God will last forever.
