"May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope." Romans 15:13
The world is full of hope.
That’s not necessarily a bad thing, because the world’s hope is generally wishing for good things:
"I hope we have lots of visitors this Sunday."
"I hope my luggage arrives on the same plane as me."
"I hope the 49ers win the Super Bowl."
These are wishes for a good outcome. Nothing wrong with that.
But they dilute Biblical hope. While the world’s hope is in an uncertainty, Biblical hope’s outcome is certain. Biblical hope is in a sure foundation.
Jesus assured us of the perfect outcome of hope by dying for our sins and taking upon himself the wrath of God. This is why a Christian hope is not wishful thinking, but a surety. Our hope is in the only person who ever kept all of his promises.
And he promised to come back for us in the fullness of time.
"Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for He who promised is faithful." Hebrews 10:23
