Cast Your Cares

by Star Heer on February 15, 2023

"Cast your cares on the Lord and He will sustain you."  Psalm 55:22

Normally, I think of a fishing rod and casting my line for a good catch when I think of the word ‘cast’. Additionally, one can cast off, cast a ballot, cast away, cast lots, cast for a part in a play, or form a cast for a mold. Well, I think you get it! There are lots of meanings for ‘cast’. The definition we focus on here is an “intentional act to relocate an object”. In this case, we are relocating our cares, our worries, and our anxieties from us… to Christ.

This is a great promise from God. We can simply toss what is most concerning us over to Him. Is it really that easy? Once we remember who God is and put our trust in Him, it can be that easy. Let the throwing or relocating be your first response to bad news, a worried heart, a sorrowful soul. Cast your anxiety in the direction of Christ. Do so specifically with your prayer of supplication regarding your specific circumstance.  Do it immediately. Don’t hold your burdens to yourself. God is waiting for you and He promises to help.

He does this because He loves you.

1 Peter 5:7 says Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.”

He does this because He promises to be our shield.  His power sustains us. It holds us up and keeps us going. He wants us to put our trust in Him so that we can ride out the storms of life.  Psalm 18:35- "You make Your saving help my shield, and Your right hand sustains me; Your help has made me great.”

Finally (and this is amazing), this is one promise that God will never renege on. He is prepared to be our shield and carry our concerns always. Read His promise in Joshua 1:5- “No one will be able to stand against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you.”

So stop. Claim the promise of God. Do it now….you are His child, after all. Consider what it is that you carry, and share your burden with Christ. His shoulders are big and His love is wide. He will never forsake you.
