Autumn Leaves

by Barbara Zumwalt on October 15, 2024

1 John 5:12, “Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have God’s Son does not have life.”

Autumn brings so many vibrant colors. Everywhere we look is a feast for the eyes.

And a lesson in following the Son.

Leaves are vital in tree health. They take the rays of the sun and turn them into sustenance for the tree. They send it to the roots, which store those sugars and draw up water and minerals from the soil then initiate the circulation of that nutrition throughout the tree.

The leaves transform the sun’s energy into chlorophyl, which is green and covers the leaves’ true colors. As there are fewer and fewer hours of sunlight, the leaves lose sight of their sun and revert to their true colors. Lovely as the reds, purples, oranges and yellows are, they are a sign of coming decay and death.

In like manner, when we drink in the Son, His rays of truth permeate our beings and cover our true colors. Only He never shortens His hours of life sustainment. It is only us who choose to look away and revert to our old ways.
