There are moments in life when we feel utterly alone. Trials can make it seem like no one understands what we’re going through, and doubts creep in about our calling, our worth, or even our sanity. It’s easy to feel isolated, as though the whole world is against us.
The prophet Elijah once felt the same way. After his dramatic showdown with the prophets of Baal on Mount Carmel (1 Kings 18), Elijah found himself fleeing for his life and overcome with despair. He cried out to God, saying, “I am the only one left” (1 Kings 19:10). But God gently reminded him that Elijah wasn’t as alone as he thought. There were still 7,000 in Israel who had remained faithful to the Lord and had not bowed to Baal (1 Kings 19:18).
When you feel isolated or under attack, remember Elijah’s story. Pray for an experience of community that expands your perspective. There are more believers out there than you might realize who have walked in similar paths and can empathize with your struggles. Their shared experiences can be a source of encouragement, strength, and hope.
May God send you moments of connection and fellowship that reminds you that even when you feel alone, you are not. There is a community of faith around you, and the God who sustained Elijah is the same God who walks with you today.
